ArtStarts in Schools Board Chair Departure

It is with both sadness and gratitude that we are announcing Thara Vayali’s resignation from her position as Board Chair of the ArtStarts in Schools Board of Directors as of January 29, 2021.

As Board Chair, Thara played a primary role during a time of significant organizational transformation. Following the departure of ArtStarts’ long-standing Executive Director, Thara supported the Board and Staff while the organization underwent leadership transition and changes due to the global pandemic. Thara guided strategic conversations about the future of the organization and its leadership, while also handling critical operational tasks. Her work largely contributed to the organization’s current strength and stability. 

During her four-year tenure with ArtStarts, Thara prioritized anti-oppression education and board development. Thara led the Board with a collaborative leadership style, facilitated critical conversations, and prioritized accountability, which strengthened board governance. Her participation in long-term planning has culminated in the organization’s next five year Strategic Plan that will guide ArtStarts towards deeper mission impact.

The ArtStarts Staff and Board are grateful for Thara’s leadership and wish her a bright, creative future ahead.

Gary Wang has been elected Interim Board Chair until a new Board Chair is appointed after ArtStarts’ Annual General Meeting on May 7, 2021.
