Who Are We? is a collaborative project investigating what it means to be Canadian. Over 900 Lower Mainland elementary students, teachers and professional artists took part in the project. Together, they creatively explored these questions: Who or what makes up a community? How does culture develop? Does heritage play a role in Canadian identity? and, How does the history of Canada define who we are today?
Through active engagement and reflection, the students expressed their thoughts on these important questions through art. Who Are We? demonstrates the inspiring work that emerges when artists, teachers and young people create and learn together. The result were two stunning mural exhibitions featuring a series of large-scale work, both at ArtStarts Gallery of young people's art in Vancouver and Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.
