Formed in 1989, Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble is the first professional Chinese music group formed in North America. From its humble beginnings, the group has been a collective of classically trained instrumentalists who have immigrated from China and chosen Vancouver as their home. Since their first appearance in 1989 for the Governor General's Concert at the Orpheum Theatre, this exceptional group of musicians has been performing at schools, community events, major festivals and on CBC.

Three musicians of the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble collaborate with a variety of special guests to present a lively concert program of children’s songs and beautiful melodies, primarily from China and Taiwan. This concert for Grades K-9 will feature traditional instrumental music and folk songs from China and Taiwan. Songs such as Jasmine Flower and The Snail & Oriole will be presented and accompanied by short introductions and stories in English or Mandarin. Guest artist will be determined at the time of booking and may include award-winning, 2x Western Canadian Music artist of the year, Ginalina.

Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble - Live at Your School is a concert program of traditional and contemporary chamber music on Chinese instruments. The show introduces students and teachers to Chinese music and culture through dramatic instrumental performance delivered by four highly trained and accomplished musicians.
