Quest for the Moon is a shadow-puppet play about the unlikely friendship between a young fox and the Moon. One night, the Moon goes missing, and the Fox is forced to face his fears and venture beyond the comfort of his home forest in order to find his friend. Through his adventure, the Fox learns about the importance of one’s journey over the destination, and the many ways friendships can take shape. The lessons in this story came out of experiences in COVID isolation: how our relationships with one another grow and change under new circumstances, and how to prioritise one’s own mental health in order to continue caring for others. The whole show - puppets and set - fits in a suitcase and expands, which makes it accessible and easy to set up. One booking includes multiple shows; each show includes the 30 minute performance followed by a 20 minute hands-on workshop to teach students how the shadow puppetry is created, show them the behind the scenes of the show, and teach them how to make their own shadow puppets. We intend to have multiple shows per booking so smaller groups of students (a few classes at a time) will engage directly with the puppets and the performers. The show is available in both English and French, and is suitable for French Immersion classes.
