Welcome to Our New Program Manager, Pavan Thind!

Please join us in welcoming Pavan Thind to the ArtStarts team as our new Program Manager for Booking and Touring!

Welcome, Pavan! Please tell us a little about yourself.

I was born and raised in the Lower Mainland and graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BA in Communications with a minor in Publishing. Before my role with ArtStarts I worked primarily in the nonprofit sector. It was during this time that I was also bit by the travel bug and was fortunate enough to take some time off and adventure around the globe.

What is your role at ArtStarts?

I am the new Program Manager for Booking and Touring. I work with our amazing Program Coordinator, Erica, to get artists scheduled in schools across the province! I also support in administering Artist in Education grants and will be managing the annual Showcase conference in the Spring.

Where did art start for you?

Like many, art started at a young age for me. If I wasn’t playing dress up or pretend at preschool, I was home,  on the floor of my parents bedroom, with a duffle bag full of scrap paper, colouring books, crayons and felts. I became a pro at drawing Sailor Moon!

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Be patient and trust the process. Things won’t unfold when you want or the way you had imagined and that's ok!

What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?

I’ve learned to use my voice and speak out on issues that I’m passionate about. There is a lot happening in the world today and its important to speak up and have those challenging conversations if we want to make a change.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I’m a baker and a crafter. If you’ve seen a scone recipe or DIY craft on Pinterest there is a good chance I’ve tried it! My success rate however...not always so high. I also love colouring books and own an alarming number of crayons for someone my age.
